Katie is thrilled! Now she and Myrtle can go everywhere together; but, alas, a few days later, another challenge occurs. A boy, who is lonely and jealous because he has no friends, makes a mean decision to hide and cut Myrtle’s string when she and Katie go by, When Katie realizes that Myrtle is gone, she cries all the way home and asks for help again. This time her mom suggests a special idea—to put up signs and offer a reward to help find Myrtle.
Now Katie has the confidence to go into action. She makes signs and puts them up all over her neighborhood; and once Myrtle is found, she even comes up with her own sparky ideas of how to rescue her. Katie then decides to confront the boy with kindness and help him understand that his actions hurt her. He apologizes and promises to never do that again—and maybe now he can make a friend. In the end, Katie makes a surprise decision that helps everyone grow and win—the boy, the turtle, and herself!
